Wolgan Valley: Canyoner dies in tragic abseiling accident

A man has tragically died after a canyoning accident in the Blue Mountains.

A man has died after a canyoning accident in the Blue Mountains.

NSW Police said a group were canyoning in the Wolgan Valley, about 30km from Lithgow, when a 65-year-old man fell onto rocks while abseiling at about 2.30pm on Wednesday.

His friends called emergency services and commenced CPR and first aid on the man.

NSW Police Rescue, the Special Operations Team from NSW Ambulance, and the Toll Rescue Helicopter attended the scene.

Despite emergency services’ best efforts, the man tragically died at the scene.

His body will be removed from the scene today, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
