There’s more than a new chiller and freezer in store for German discount supermarket ALDI Katoomba.
Parking relief is in sight for shoppers stuck circling around the parking lot looking for spots, with ALDI confirming it has lodged a development application to expand its store in Katoomba Street.
“We have submitted a development application to expand our Katoomba store, as well as a refit with our new store layout,” an ALDI Australia spokeswoman told The Blue Mountains News.
The $2.3 million proposal lodged with Blue Mountains Council includes 13 more parking spaces and a new lift.
The redevelopment includes a new lift to store level, new ramps, a reconfiguration of the main carpark to create nine extra spaces and extend the southwest carpark to provide new landscaping and four extra parking spaces.
In store, there will be an increase in dry storage, chiller and freezer capacity.
“The carpark is currently at capacity during busy times,” notes a statement of environmental effects prepared by Stimson and Baker Planning on behalf of ALDI.
ALDI’s proposal was discussed at a site meeting with council officers on October 1, where a range of issues were discussed including shielding the view of the planned carpark extension from neighbouring homes.
ALDI’s spokeswoman said ALDI would continue to update the community as the plan progressed.
