HAS a Rooty Hill restaurant created Australia’s hottest burger?
Made By The Hill’s Chur Burger believes it has with the ‘Ring of Fire’; a burger with layers upon layers of chilli, including the Carolina Reaper — dubbed the hottest chilli in the world by The Guinness Book of Records until recently.
Created by Made By The Hill’s executive chef Scott Shaw, the Ring of Fire is made with a beef patty drenched in hot chilli seasoning, topped with Habanero cheese, jalapeños, a Carolina Reaper confit, fresh Carolina Reaper, and lashings of the in-house ‘Hot as Hell’ sauce, served with a chilli cabbage slaw.
Mr Shaw said the burger includes “all the chilli families” and lives up to its name.
“It’s a very enjoyable burger for someone who likes chilli,” he said.
The heat of the chillies was so intense that Mr Shaw donned a mask and eye protection “just for precautionary measures” when making the chilli confit.
Mr Shaw said the chilli confit allowed for “a really lovely, developed sauce so you don’t have just a hit of chilli — you have a really developed flavour”.
Mr Shaw — who, unsurprisingly, enjoys chilli — hopes diners enjoy the burger.
“Food has got to be enjoyable and I’d like to see people finish the burger and enjoy the flavour profile,” he said.
Made By The Hill, at 55 Sherbrooke St, Rooty Hill, will run a Chur Burger Ring of Fire Challenge from February 23, to devour the insanely hot burger in less than an hour.
The burger costs $17 and will be served with a much-needed tumbler of ‘sweet relief’ milk.
Those who complete the challenge will receive a shirt and badge, plus bragging rights.
The Ring of Fire is so hot that it comes with a health warning — it should not be consumed by pregnant women, children, or those with high blood pressure, heart, stomach or bowel conditions, and those unsure should consult their health professional before trying it.
