ST MARYS Saints are counting on their nine-game winning streak to carry the team through to Ron Massey Cup glory.
Their opponents for the rugby league decider are none other than the minor premiers – the Mounties.
“It’s going to be tough,” Saints coach Brad Drew said. “Mounties the benchmark; they’re a strong club.”
The odds aren’t entirely against the Saints; they defeated the Mounties in the qualifying final 26-22 and have the confidence they can do it again.
Former Penrith Panther and Saints captain Nathan Smith will be leading the squad of 23 which includes the talented Sam Jones in five-eighth and Alan Eisenhuth as full back.
“It’s exciting for the club,” Drew said of the team’s inaugural grand final in what is its first year in the elite comptition.
“We’re doing well, we’ve won nine in a row now.
“We’ve got a lot of confidence but we’re going to have to be at our best.”
The match will kick off at 2.15pm on Sunday at Pirtek Stadium, Parramatta.
