Tyarn Lees started gymnastics when she was just three years old and her dedication and skill has earned her a Local Sports Stars nomination.
The 10-year-old Rooty Hill resident competed against girls five years her senior at the state championships at the Rooty Hill Sydney Gymnastic and Aquatic Centre last month.
Tyarn was among the youngest of 140 competitors.
She placed fourth overall and was selected in the top eight for the NSW team ahead of nationals in Melbourne later this month.
The youngster has a bright future according to her mum, Amy, who was a gymnast for nine years and now coaches the sport at Sydney Academy of Gymnastics at Seven Hills — the same gym her daughter trains in.
Ms Lees started gymnastics at Rooty Hill SGAC when she was nine years old and took up coaching at 14.
Ms Lees said she was proud of her daughter.
“She’s done a lot for a 10-year-old,” Ms Lees said.
“She’s not competing against girls her age.
“I was very good at it but it’s all very different now.
“She’s just very professional and very mature for her age. She’s heaps ahead me when I was her age.”
