Rising boxer Jayden Buan is the Local Sports Star nominee
Jayden Buan loves nothing more than taking on fighters bigger than him. The 15-year-old is this week’s Local Sports Star nominee.

JAYDEN Buan is a young man on a mission.
Despite taking up the sport of boxing just seven months ago, Buan’s already come close to winning an Australian title in Queensland.
Despite going down on points to Tasmanian Bailey Wells, Buan’s now taking boxing even more seriously.
“It was my first national titles and the guy I fought had 24 fights and had won it the past two years, so I’m pretty happy with how I went and I even thought I won the fight,” he said.
His fast ascent to the top of his sport has earned him a nomination in the Local Sports Stars Awards.
He’s quit playing rugby league to concentrate on the sweet science and the 15-year-old has lofty ambitions.
“I want to be champion of the world one day,” he said. “I started boxing for fitness and there’s no better feeling than after a training session, which I enjoy doing.”
Buan’s training regimen is what’s making him a tough opponent in the ring. Taking on bigger guys in training has hardened him up so that when he steps back to his own weight it’s all of a sudden a much easier task.
“I like sparring even though I’m the smallest and lightest one at the gym,” he said.
