CHRISTMAS light lovers Sharon and Ebony Peach are back at it, lighting up their dazzling festive display for the community to enjoy.
Now in their fifth year, the mother and daughter duo from Colyton have added features which took months to prepare.
“It took Ebony and I longer this year. We worked on a Santa sleigh which took three and a half months to refabricate,” mum Sharon Peach said.
“We stripped it back to an empty shell, painted it, re-upholstered, added lights and we got a life-sized reindeer.
“We also changed up our display and bought a $3000 firework light from China.”
Sadly, as the pair put on final touches, they were hit with disaster — literally.
Police became involved when a person was captured on CCTV vandalising their display, once with an energy drink can and later on with something much heavier.
“They came back and threw broken roof tiles, as big as my hand, which smashed the reindeer’s antler and ricocheted off Santa’s belly; we were devastated, I cried, I was so upset,” Ms Peach said.
“What if they aimed wrong and we were sitting in our loungeroom?”
The offender was given a warning by police.
Despite not being able to replace the ornaments — which are no longer sold — the duo repaired the damage and focused on their opening night.
More than 2000 people turned out for the first display of lights last Friday.
During displays Ms Peach, owner of Sharon’s Superb Slices, sells her cakes.
The duo also fundraise for a local charity, Rosie’s Place, which offers counselling for children, young people and families who have experienced trauma from some form of violence.
The organisation helps about 350 people a year.
Service manager at Rosie’s Place, Catherine Want, said their contributions “are invaluable”.
“With the money from the Peach family, we were able to get a children’s book printed, where our budget wouldn’t have allowed us to do that,” she said.
Ms Peach said: “Last year we raised over $3000. I’d love to reach $4000 this time.”
