An illegal Harlequin corn snake was found inside a Bidwill home around 11am yesterday.
Police attached to Mt Druitt LAC attended the home on an unrelated matter when they noticed the snake inside the home.
Sean Cade of Australian Snake Catchers in St Clair was called to retrieve the snake from the Raven Grove home.
Mr Cade said these snakes had become more and more popular in the area.
“Corn snakes are Illegal in Australia as their origin is South America.
“Lots of people have them though almost every other house we go to have them, because they aren't venous and have bright colours.
“But they are very good at escaping and can breed with out native snakes and cause all sorts of problems.” Mr Cade said.
Mr Cade warned residents that these types of snakes do have to be put down if found.
“We took the snake from the house but we do have to euthanise them which is unfortunate for the snake.” he said.
An investigation into the origin of the snake has been launched by Mt Druitt police.
