Barber to represent state at championship
SHALVEY barber Pio Paulo will compete in “fierce” Australian barber championships. He tells how shaving a Jesus portrait on someone’s head is far from the weirdest haircut he has given.

Don't miss out on the headlines from The Standard. Followed categories will be added to My News.
STARS, stripes, portraits and even Pokémon — no haircut is too much for Shalvey barber Pio Paulo.
Later this month, Paulo will go head to head with the best barbers in the country in the Australian barber championships.
Competing in three categories, the Da Spot Barbershop employee will represent NSW to the best of his ability.
He will be required to cut three different hairstyles on three models in 90 minutes.
Paulo said competition would be fierce.
“I am not sure how I will go, there are a lot of really good barbers that attend,” he said.
“The top three come together and we have our own models, there are three different categories that we compete in.
“The first is a new style comb-over, the second is a fade blend and the third is hair art or freestyle.
“For the last competition, I did a portrait of Jesus in my model’s hair and we only had half an hour.”
But the Jesus portrait is far from the weirdest haircut Paulo has designed,
“Every week kids come in and they want a Batman or some stars and now they want Pokemon — I do whatever they want for them,” Paulo said.
“I have done all sorts of weird things like Mike Tyson and Rick Ross portraits.”
The Australian Barber titles will be at Ultimo TAFE on September 25. Tickets are available from oztix.com.au.
