Worker dies after being hit by container on worksite near Newcastle Airport at Williamtown

Authorities are investigating the death of a man during a workplace incident on the grounds of Newcastle Airport.

Authorities are investigating the death of a man during a workplace incident on the grounds of Newcastle Airport.

Emergency services were called to the worksite near Nelson Bay Rd at Williamtown about 9.20am following reports that a container had fallen on a worker.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene, however he was unable to be revived.

While yet to be formally identified, the man is believed to be aged in his 50s.

Port Stephens-Hunter police Police attended and established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist police.

The area is on the grounds of the airport but is several hundred metres away from the terminal.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.

SafeWork NSW has been notified.

A SafeWork NSW statement said inspectors were on site and were making inquiries following the death.
