Van Truong Nguyen, 29, charged after 257 cannabis plants allegedly seized from home at Bolton Point

Police have allegedly seized 257 cannabis plants, some standing two metres high, after a raid on a Lake Macquarie home. One man has been charged and later released on court bail.

A man will have to abide by a nightly curfew and report daily to police in Sydney after he was granted conditional bail on charges he was cultivating a Lake Macquarie cannabis house.

Van Truong Nguyen, 29, was arrested after police raided a property on Karina Pl, Bolton Point about 11.45am on Tuesday.

Police allegedly seized 257 cannabis plants, carrying in size from 30cm to two metres tall as well as 1.3kg of drug cannabis leaf within resealable bags.

Nguyen was taken to Belmont police station where he was charged with knowingly take part in the cultivation of a large commercial quantity of cannabis, supplying an indictable quantity of cannabis and diverting or using electricity for a generating system without authority.

He was refused bail to appear in Belmont Local Court on Wednesday, where he was not required to enter any pleas.

Nguyen successfully made a release application, with magistrate Stephen Olischlager granted bail on several conditions.

They include reporting daily to Bankstown police station, abiding by an 8pm-8am curfew, surrendering his passport and not entering any airport or other point of departure.

The matter was adjourned to Newcastle Local Court on February 5.
