A man charged over his alleged role in the shooting death of drug dealer David King, where police allege he drove the getaway vehicle before torching it, will head to trial after denying his involvement.

In Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday via video link, Tyson George Stamp pleaded not guilty to murder, kidnapping, robbery armed with an offensive weapon to cause wounding and possessing an unauthorised pistol.

The 28-year-old also pleaded guilty to a charge of destroying a motor vehicle, that being a Hyundai Santa Fe sport, the property of Avis budget, by setting it alight.

He’ll be arraigned in the NSW Supreme Court next month and will head to trial, likely later next year.

Police allege he was at the scene of the killing on August 29 last year at Salt Ash, but did not fire the shotgun, when Mr King was shot in the face.

Police allege Mr King, who was on bail for drug dealing offences, was allegedly shot at close range while he drove his Ford Ranger utility along Hideaway Close in what police allege to be a drug deal gone wrong.

Police further allege Stamp was the driver of the Hyundai, using it to transport people from the crime scene back to Raymond Terrace before setting the vehicle ablaze.

Police also allege a woman, who was with Mr King but not involved in the alleged murder, was detained by Stamp and others before being released without harm.

A series of vision clips from security cameras at Heatherbrae and Raymond Terrace were released last year as detectives sought further information about the vehicle which was found burnt out off Masonite Rd.

Last month co-accused Max Lowcock, 29, also pleaded not guilty to murdering the 45-year-old, and not guilty to kidnapping, a charge of robbery armed with an offensive weapon and possession of an unauthorised firearm.

Adam Kane Garvey, 40, also pleaded not guilty to concealing the alleged murder, hindering a police investigation, detaining a person in company and possession of an unauthorised firearm.

Charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder and accessory after the fact to kidnapping were withdrawn against Garvey.

Both men will also head to trial in the Supreme Court.

The fourth man Elijah Cage is also facing a kidnapping charge, possession of an unauthorised firearm, robbery with an offensive weapon, damaging property by fire, and aggravated sexual assault.

He has not yet made a plea and will appear in court on these matters next month.

Police allege Cage had organised the drug deal of about half an ounce of methamphetamine, but had attempted to rob Mr King before he fled.

Detectives allege that it was either Cage or Lowcock who shot Mr King twice in the neck and head before the vehicle slammed into a tree.
