The heartbroken brother of a Central Coast man - hit and killed on the road - has posted a touching tribute to his sibling asking those who knew him to “celebrate and remember him”.

Carlos Jose De Sousa, 52, from Tumbi Umbi, tragically died after he was hit by two cars on the Pacific Highway at Kanwal on the Central Coast at about 7:30pm on Friday, April 20.

Despite the efforts of first responders, he could not be saved from his injuries.

The former pilot, pharmacy worker and local shop owner from Brazil, moved to Australia in 1972 as a child, and grew up in Camperdown, in western Sydney, before moving to the Central Coast.

Central Coast psychic and spiritual healer Oscar De Sousa Jager said his brother had style, grace and “a lot of pizzazz” and had dabbled in a variety of interests and passions during his full life.

“He travelled with his partner to many places, he enjoyed a lot of outdoor sports and adventures,” Oscar De Sousa Jager said.

“He worked mainly doing pharmacy gigs until he decided to join me in the esoteric field.

“I helped him establish the Mystic Earth shop which he managed for a couple of years and then semi-retired, he dabbled in real estate and precious gems and stone and was looking forward to a new adventure when the heavens suddenly called him for a higher purpose.

“My brother, now an amazing guardian and a divine force. Celebrate him, remember him and if ever you need some divine intervention call upon him, for he still walks among us, guiding and protecting us.”

His ex-partner of 21 years also wrote a touching tribute, reminiscing about memories with the 52-year-old saying Carlos had came into his life when he needed it most.

“(He) opened up amazing new worlds for me, be they bifanas and pasteis de nata in Petersham, sleeping in the back of the van somewhere down the NSW south coast, horse riding in the pouring rain in Zimbabwe, road trips in Australia - often with my dad in tow - and in the US with his exuberant band of cousins,” he said.

But one of his most treasured memories, a trip to Carlos’ native Brazil in 2003.

“That had the biggest impact, kickstarting my career as a travel writer and a fascination with the Portuguese-speaking world that will remain with me forever,” his former partner wrote.

“He had charm and sparkle, a tremendously generous spirit, feisty strength where I was weak and meek, and a go-getting drive.

“Carlos, thanks for the memories and the joy you brought into my life. May your spirit shine as you rest in peace, now and forever.”

Glowing tributes for the 52-year-old also flooded in online, as he was remembered as a “one-of-a-kind spirit” with a “cheeky laugh”.

“His heart was full of happiness & understanding,” one person wrote.

“Carlos was a bright star, such a kind colourful generous soul. His loss is great. He will always watch over you,” another said on Facebook.

“Although his loved ones miss him dearly, he has left a legacy. A loving man with a friendly smile,” a friend said.

Tuggerah Lakes Police have commenced investigations into the circumstances of the crash, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

The drivers of both vehicles – an 18-year-old man and a 21-year-old man – were uninjured during the crash and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
