Tiarna Hobbs-Ladd charged after Newcastle hotel raid allegedly uncovers magic mushrooms, pink coke, cannabis and MDMA

A young woman has been arrested after police allegedly found almost a pound of cannabis, over two ounces of ecstasy, an ounce of pink cocaine and different types of magic mushrooms in an inner-city Newcastle hotel room.

A search of a hotel room on Newcastle’s main street has allegedly uncovered significant amounts of magic mushrooms, cocaine, MDMA and cannabis.

Newcastle City’s proactive crime team raided the Hunter St hotel room about 1.15pm on Thursday following an investigation into alleged ongoing drug supply in the city.

Included in the seizure was 109g of capsules containing psilocybin – the psychedelic compound found in magic mushrooms – as well as 72.8g of dried magic mushrooms.

Some 441.55g of cannabis, 62.4g of MDMA, 27.35g of pink cocaine, 3.1g of cocaine and prescription medication was also allegedly seized.

Lake Macquarie woman Tiarna Hobbs-Ladd, 20, was arrested at the hotel and taken to Newcastle police station.

He was later charged with seven charges including two counts each of supplying a prohibited drug (greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity) and possessing a prohibited drug.

Hobbs-Ladd was also charged with one count each of supplying a prohibited drug (greater than or equal to a large commercial quantity), supplying cannabis (greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity), and possessing or attempting to possess a prescribed restricted substance.

She faced Newcastle Local Court on Friday where she was not required to enter a plea and did not make a release application.

Magistrate Janine Lacy formally refused bail and Hobbs-Ladd was remanded into custody to reappear on May 14.
