A Sydney man who taunted police on his own missing persons post, saying he was going on a trip to Newcastle, now has a warrant out for his arrest.

Last week NSW Police made an appeal to locate Brett Daniel Martin after he was reported missing by family members who had not seen or heard from him for two weeks.

It said the 29-year-old hadn’t been seen since October 3 when he was last seen at a home in Dee Why, and that police and family held concerns for his welfare.

But police got a surprise after posting the appeal to their Facebook page, when days later Martin decided to make a comment to reveal he was fine and that he planned to visit the Hunter.

“And then I’ll be heading to Newcastle a few days after,” he wrote.

That post earned a swift response from officers who then asked Martin to visit his nearest police station.

“Could you please contact your nearest police station? We’re required to sight and check on the welfare of anyone who has been reported missing,” police wrote.

But he quickly replied, “I’m in Gosford, why would I do that, I’m not missing?”

Martin also posted a screenshot of the comments to his Facebook page which sparked a tirade of laughing emojis from friends, as he mocked police.

“It’s gone be come a meme, coppas are so mad, they took down the missing persons, they rang me and said I’m wanted now (sic),” he boasted.

“They be see me they hating when I roll up trolling try catch me.”

It further escalated when Martin was supposed to show up at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday to address several domestic violence related charges, when his solicitor told the Magistrate he didn’t know where his client was, and that he didn’t want to front to court.

Mr Thompson said he had text contact with his client but that he didn’t want to tell him where he was.

“Have you been able to find Mr Martin?” Magistrate Caleb Franklin asked. “I haven’t,” replied his solicitor.

A police prosecutor informed the court there was a missing persons report out on Martin and that he had made contact via Facebook.

Magistrate Franklin then issued a warrant for his arrest, citing Martin was aware of the location and date of his court appearance, yet failed to attend.

Martin is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 150cm to 160cm tall, of thin build, with brown hair.

He is known to frequent the Northern Beaches and Western Sydney areas.

Anyone who may have seen or heard from him, or may know of his whereabouts, is urged to contact police.
