A man has been charged following a horror crash in the state’s north earlier this year which left two people dead.
Emergency services were called to the Pacific Hwy at Tea Gardens, near Viney Creek Road West, after reports of a crash involving two cars and a motorcycle shortly after 1.40pm on March 24.
An Isuzu D-Max utility had allegedly been travelling southbound when it collided with a Toyota station wagon and a motorcycle, both travelling northbound. The male motorcyclist died at the scene.
The female driver of the Toyota was trapped inside the vehicle, and died at the scene a short time later. Her female passenger was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
Following an investigation by officers from the Port Stephens Police District, including the Crash Investigation Unit, police arrested a 59-year-old man at Raymond Terrace Police Station, north of Newcastle, on May 26.
The man was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle, negligent driving without causing death or grievous bodily harm, and not keeping left of the dividing line.
He was given conditional bail to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court on July 4.
