Two people have had a narrow escape after a car crashed into a store at Swansea.
Fire and Rescue NSW said in a statement that crews were called to a shopping centre in the southeastern Lake Macquarie locale after reports that the sedan had crashed into a haberdashery shop about 9.30am.
The vehicle had ploughed through a wall of the shop, a family-owned business for more than 55 years, and continued through part of the business.
“Two people inside the store narrowly escaped harm,” the statement said.
“The owner was at the rear of the shop when she heard the impact, the car crashing through shelves of wool and craft supplies.
“She’s told firefighters, had the crash happened 20 minutes later, her business would have been busy hosting a regular craft group.”
Firefighters from the nearby Swansea fire station were quickly on scene.
The crew helped cut the power supply, assess the structural integrity of the building and clear the site of debris.
It also helped extract the car from the ruins.
Police said it appeared the 73-year-old female driver had suffered a medical episode.
She was treated at the scene by paramedics and no further action would be taken by police.
