Man stabbed after confronting neighbour’s alleged burglar on Selwyn St, Merewether
A man is in hospital with multiple knife wounds after being attacked as he allegedly confronted a burglar who was targeting the injured man’s neighbour’s residence in suburban Newcastle.

A man has been treated for multiple knife wounds after allegedly confronting a burglar who was targeted his neighbour’s residence in suburban Newcastle.
Police said emergency services were called to Selwyn St at Merewether just after 7am on Friday following reports of a stabbing.
“Police have been told a man was allegedly stabbed following a confrontation with another man, who is believed to have broken into a neighbouring property,” police said in a statement.
The 33-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics for a stab wound to his leg and hand before being taken to John Hunter Hospital where he was listed on Friday as being in a stable condition.
A crime scene was established and Newcastle City police found a 23-year-old at a nearby unit in Wilton St a short time later.
He was arrested and taken to Newcastle police station where he was assisting police with their inquiries.
