A mother and son have been charged after a man was discovered in bushland suffering gunshot wounds to both legs.
According to police, about 5.30pm on Thursday, Lake Macquarie officers were called to O’Donnelltown Rd, West Wallsend, following reports of a shooting.
“Police arrived to find a man, who was located in bushland, had been shot in both legs,” a NSW Police statement said.
“NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 39-year-old at the scene, before he was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.”
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced.
A short time later, two men, aged 23 and 33, were arrested at Seaham St, Holmesville.
They were taken to Belmont Police Station and questioned, before later being released.
About 7.15pm, a 26-year-old Brayden Leschinkohi and his mother 48-year-0ld Leah Vicki Leschinkohi attended Toronto Police Station.
They were arrested and Brayden was charged with discharging a firearm with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing a loaded firearm in a public place.
His mother was charged with being an accessory after the fact to discharge a firearm with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Both were refused police bail and appeared in Toronto Local Court on Friday.
The mother was granted bail by Magistrate Alan Railton on the condition she report three times a week to Toronto police, hand over her passport and stump up a $7000 surety split between herself and another person.
The magistrate also ordered Leah not to contact or go near four unnamed people or any other prosecution witnesses.
Brayden did not apply for bail with it formally refused by Mr Railton with the case to return to court in November.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, though police said there was “no ongoing threat to the public”.
