Man charged with armed robbery of BP service station on Macquarie Dr, Valentine

A man has been charged with armed robbery after he allegedly pulled a knife on a female customer and demanded her wallet at a Newcastle service station.

A man had no luck escaping from police after he allegedly held up a Newcastle service station early on Wednesday morning, arrested promptly following a foot pursuit.

Police allege the man stormed the BP service station, on Macquarie Dr at Valentine at about 7am and threatened two woman inside.

Police further allege he pulled a knife and demanded the wallet of a female customer, and then turned his attention to the attendant, before fleeing the store in a Mitsubishi Outlander.

Luckily no one was injured during the incident.

Lake Macquarie Police rushed to the scene and while responding spotted a vehicle matching the description on James St, Windale.

Officers saw a man flee the Outlander before they engaged in a foot pursuit and arrested a 21-year-old man at a nearby home.

He was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with two counts of robbery armed with an offensive weapon, assault with intent to rob armed with offensive weapon, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier, and two counts of larceny.

He was refused bail to appear at Toronto Local Court on Thursday.

Inquiries are continuing.
