Man, 31, dies in crash between car and truck on Cessnock Rd at Cliftleigh

One man is dead and a second has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a crash between a truck and a car near Maitland.

Emergency services were called to Cessnock Rd at Cliftligh, near the Testers Hollow bridge, about 3.5pm following reports of the crash.

Police said the driver of the car, a 31-year-old man, died at the scene.

The truck driver, a man believed to be aged in his 40s, was rushed by paramedics to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Port Stephens-Hunter Police District officers have established a crime scene on the road, which connects Maitland and Kurri Kurri, with crash investigation unit police to take carriage of the investigation.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
