Josh Gillies arrested by Hunter Valley police at Abermain

A man with a “F--- NSW Police” tattoo has been arrested, allegedly hiding in a cupboard before being charged with more than 50 offences.

A man with a “F--- NSW Police” tattoo on his leg has been arrested, allegedly hiding in a cupboard, and later charged with more than 50 offences.

Police said Josh Gillies, 27, was taken into custody without incident after allegedly being found inside the cupboard of a house at Abermain on Thursday.

The heavily-tattooed Gillies was led away in a shirt and a pair of shorts, with the tattoo on his leg sporting his thoughts on law enforcement proudly and publicly displayed.

The arrest came after a concerted search for Gillies, with police making several social media posts asking the public for assistance in tracking him down before investigations led them to a residence on Grafton St at Abermain on Thursday morning.

Police said officers, including members of the Hunter Valley proactive crime team, general duties, detectives and highway patrol, set up a perimeter before searching the house and allegedly finding Gillies hiding.

He was taken to Cessnock police station and charged with 54 offences, including multiple counts of drive while disqualified, car theft, aggravated break/enter and steal in company, malicious damage, damage property by fire, police pursuit and possess prohibited drug.

He briefly faces Cessnock Local Court on Friday where he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused by magistrate Robert Stone.

Gillies will reappear in Cessnock Local Court on September 14.
