Jacob Gribble: Charlestown man charged with assaulting a police officer during arrest

Charlestown man Jacob Gribble is accused of damaging several properties at Hillsborough before police allege he lashed out at an officer who tried to arrest him.

A Charlestown man has been accused of punching a female police officer to the head and pulling her hair when she tried to arrest him for allegedly damaging property at several Lake Macquarie homes.

Police allege about 8pm on Monday, police allege Jacob Gribble, 20, entered the backyard of a home on King St, Hillsborough, and damaged sporting equipment.

When he was confronted by homeowners a short time later, police allege Gribble then fled and ran through several nearby properties, continuing to damage homes.

Police allege a second homeowner confronted him on Percy St where the accused tackled the homeowner to the ground and punched him in the face several times.

Police allege when a Lake Macquarie senior constable attempted to arrest the 20-year-old he assaulted her, punching her in side of the head and pulling her hair before he was finally restrained by assisting officers.

The officer sustained bruising and swelling to her face and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Mr Gribble was also taken to hospital under police guard for injuries sustained during the incident and was released from hospital on Tuesday morning.

He was then charged with nine offences including two counts of damage property; two counts of enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence; assault occasioning actual bodily harm; assault police and three counts of resist police.

Mr Gribble appeared at Belmont Local Court on Tuesday where he was granted strict conditional bail where he must not enter Hillsborough and has a curfew.

His matters have been adjourned until later next month.
