Hamilton North Bowling Club employee bashed during pre-dawn armed robbery

A bowling club employee has been tied up and bashed during a violent pre-dawn armed robbery, which is believed to have netted two knife-wielding bandits a significant amount of cash.

A club worker has been hospitalised and a significant amount of cash stolen during a violent armed robbery of a popular suburban bowling club in the Newcastle area.

Two men, dressed in black and armed with knives, stormed the Hamilton North Bowling Club about 4am on Monday and assaulted a 40-year-old employee.

Detectives are investigating whether the victim was tied up during the ordeal, which ended with him being taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment after he was assaulted.

It is understood he was not injured by the knives and the injuries were not considering life-threatening.

Emergency services were called to the Boreas Rd club about 5am.

The bandits stole cash and electronics.

The cash is believed to be a significant amount.

A crime scene was established, with forensic experts collecting evidence inside and outside the club.

Detectives are also canvassing the area for possible witnesses, clues and security footage.
