Two men have been arrested following a dramatic foot chase along a popular Lake Macquarie walking and bike track and onto a fire trail after an alleged police pursuit turned off suburban roads.

Police allege they found 12.6 grams of methamphetamine, $450 in cash, a knife and tablets after arresting Guy Charles Armstrong, 26, on Wednesday afternoon.

They further allege that a chase began on Lachlan St at Windale about 2.55pm before an SUV avoided road spikes and ended up driving through vehicle bollards and onto the Fernleigh Track at Redhead about 5km away.

Officers searched the area before allegedly chasing two men on foot before arresting them on a nearby fire trail.

A search of Armstrong allegedly uncovered the drugs, cash and weapons while Caleb Joshua O’Neill, 28, was also arrested.

Both were taken to Belmont police station.
