Brutal standover man and jail rapist Michael John Carroll spent decades viciously torturing drug dealers and petty crooks for a living.
But it has taken just two stab wounds to his own chest — allegedly at the hand of his daughter — to finish off his reign of terror across parts of the Lower Hunter Valley.
Carroll, 51, bled to death on the ground outside of an associate’s home at Tenambit, in the Maitland area, at the weekend.
Paramedics were unable to revive him after he was knifed twice in the incident about 7.20pm on Saturday.
His daughter Maddison Hickson, 23, was arrested at the scene and later charged with her father’s murder.
Strike Force Creekborough detectives are investigating what occurred in the lead-up to the incident.
It is understood Carroll and his daughter were part of a group of people socialising at the home before the stabbing.
His death brings to an end the violent life of Carroll, a feared criminal across parts of the Lower Hunter, known for his torture techniques in ripping off drug dealers and other crooks.
He led police on a hunt for several months while on parole in 2014 after eluding officers during a series of raids across Maitland and surrounding suburbs.
At the time, Carroll had been wanted for questioning over a series of home invasions and kidnappings, where victims had their ears cut off, fingers broken and body parts burnt.
Carroll later pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, admitting he bashed a man with a baseball bat before taking a pair of pliers to his fingers, toes and testicles.
The victim was allowed to leave only after he suffered several hours of torture and handed over his ATM card and details.
Carroll was jailed for a minimum of two years and one month for the attack.
While serving his sentence in Cessnock prison, Carroll was charged with raping a young inmate and was given extra jail time.
Carroll’s penchant for extreme violence put fear into many players in the Hunter’s criminal underbelly, with one person saying: “He was mad, too mad even for the bikies.’’
Hickson briefly faced Newcastle Bail Court on Sunday where she did not apply for release.
She was formally refused bail to appear in Maitland Local Court on Wednesday.
