A man is facing dozens of drug and gun charges after a specialist police unit allegedly seized hundreds of grams of methamphetamine and heroin during a series of raids across Newcastle.
David William Forbes, 53, was dramatically arrested by Strike Force Caulfield investigators during a vehicle stop about 7.30pm on April 17 at Shortland.
Strike Force Caulfield, comprised of officers from the Newcastle City proactive crime team, was established in December to investigate an alleged drug syndicate operating across parts of suburban Newcastle.
Following the arrest of Forbes, police searched his Shortland house and allegedly uncovered 297 grams of methamphetamine, 217 grams of heroin, $8000 in cash, a .22 calibre pistol and a range of items, including jewellery and power tools.
Forbes was later charged with 36 offences, including 25 counts of supplying a prohibited drug.
He faced Newcastle Local Court last Thursday where he was not required to enter an pleas.
A bid to be released on bail was unsuccessful and he was remanded in custody to reappear on June 12.
A second raid on a storage facility at Mayfield on Monday allegedly uncovered a rifle.
Both guns have been sent away for ballistics testing.
