Cooks Hill and Merewether: Man, 65, charged with allegedly exposing himself to school kids

A special NSW Police Strike Force has hit a man with a long string of offences for allegedly exposing himself to schoolchildren.

A man has been hit with dozens of charges after allegedly exposing himself to numerous schoolchildren.

The man, 65, was charged by officers from Strike Force Fitzwater, set up by Newcastle Police, to investigate multiple reports of a man allegedly showing his genitals to children in the suburbs of Merewether and Cooks Hill.

He was arrested after strike force detectives followed a car to Robey Street, Merewether, on Friday.

A police spokesman said the man was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he has charged with a total of 45 offences.

“A number of items have been seized for further examination from both the vehicle and a home in the Newcastle area,” the spokesman said.

The man was charged with 21 counts of intentionally do sexual act towards child between 10 to 16 years; 22 counts of stalk person intent to cause physical or mental harm; one count of intentionally sexually touch child 10 years or older and under 16 years and: one count of carry out a sexual act with another without consent.

He was refused bail by police.

The man was scheduled to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Saturday.
