Police have stopped a man walking down Newcastle’s most famous street and allegedly seized a bundle of cash and methamphetamine in front of mid-morning coffee drinkers.

A man has been arrested on Newcastle’s most famous street allegedly in possession of almost $10,000 in cash and methamphetamine with a street value exceeding $22,000.
Officers from the Newcastle City police’s proactive crime team stopped Christopher Dallas Hutchen on Hunter St at Newcastle West about 10.30am on Thursday.
Police allege a search of Hutchen revealed $9,470 cash and more than 35 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated potential street value of up to $22,572.
The cash and drugs were seized and the 44-year-old was taken to Newcastle police station.
Hutchen, of Mayfield, was charged with supplying a prohibited drug (greater than indictable, less than commercial quantity), possessing a prohibited drug, and recklessly dealing with proceeds of crime (greater than $5000).
He successfully applied for bail when he faced Newcastle Local Court on Friday, where was he was not required to enter any pleas.
Magistrate Robert Stone granted bail with a list of conditions, including that an acceptable person deposit a $5000 surety, that Hutchen abide by a nightly curfew and he report to police daily.
Hutchen will reappear in court on February 23.
