He was a mid-level cocaine dealer who spread his tentacles far across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.

The court heard Cameron Fox, 30, sourced drugs from his upline supplier, a man named Sean Roe who had links to outlaw motorcycle gangs, and would distribute small to large quantities to his vast network of customers.

But police were onto Fox and his associates with Strike Force Dernancourt formed to investigate the supply of coke across the region.

The court heard officers intercepted Fox’s calls and listened as he discussed making deals from April 2022 until his eventual arrest four months later in August.

Fox pleaded guilty to supplying a large commercial quantity of cocaine totalling more than 2.5kg which carries a maximum of life imprisonment.

On Friday in Newcastle District Court, he was sentenced to six years and six months jail with a non-parole period of three years and three months.

The court heard Fox received about 1.6kg of coke from Roe but had bulked it up with caffeine to sell off.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of commercial supply of cocaine, the supply of almost 245 grams of cannabis oil, dealing with the proceeds of crime relating to $67,500 in cash used to purchase a Ford Wildtrack, possession of a weapon – a knuckleduster – and the possession of a unauthorised firearm, a gel blaster.

In court, Fox’ s defence argued her client didn’t have the connections Roe had, there was different criminogenic behaviour at play and two different entities being operated.

Judge Roy Ellis said at the time of the offence, Fox was on conditional liberty and accepted Roe and Fox were not necessarily working together but were involved with each other through their supply chain.

The court heard Fox had a limited criminal history but was sentenced to a community correction order for an incident in 2020 which involved assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

It related to the bashing of a pub patron at Hotel Delany in Cooks Hill in June after he made a joke about his neck tattoos.

Meanwhile Roe was sentenced more than a year ago for supplying a commercial and large quantities of cocaine and received a similar jail term of six years and a non-parole of three years.

The 21-year-old was also busted with a luxury item, being a 1969 Ford Mustang worth more than $100,000, suspected of being the proceeds of crime, which was also taken into consideration.

On sentencing, Roe gave evidence that when he started working in Newcastle as a 19-year-old, he had met a member of the Bandidos bikie gang.

The bikie, who was operating from Thailand, went on to become Roe’s “upline supplier” of cocaine.
