A body has now been found following a ferocious blaze that ripped through a unit in Lake Macquarie early Thursday morning.
At about 4.10am yesterday emergency services were called to a unit block on Railway St at Teralba following reports of a fire.
On arrival NSW Fire and Rescue crews immediately carried out a defensive attack to save neighbouring properties on the block and were able to extinguish the blaze, but the unit sustained significant damage.
Video footage shared to social media of the blaze showed the property well lit, and smoke and flames flowing through the roof.
Initially there were no reports of injuries but two people were reported missing.
Lake Macquarie Police and the State Crime Command’s Arson Unit commenced inquiries into the incident before a body was discovered overnight, which is yet to be formally identified.
Structural assessments continue to be made on the unit to ensure the structure is sound before the search can continue.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
