B-double collision at Martindale, Hunter Valley Region, claims life of woman in her 80s

An elderly woman has died after the car she was a passenger in collided with a B-double truck in the Hunter Region.
Police from the Hunter Valley Police District attended the scene at Martindale Road, Martindale – northwest of Newcastle – shortly after 3.30pm on Tuesday.
Both the elderly driver, an 81-year-old man and his female passenger, also in her 80s, became trapped in their vehicle.
The woman was trapped for some time before being freed and treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
She was transported to Denham Hospital where she later died.
The woman is yet to be formally identified, police say.
The car’s driver, was also treated at the scene before being flown to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, the 43-year-old truck driver was uninjured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing procedures following the incident.
Police have established a crime scene and are now investigating circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
