A woman, aged in her 40s, has died and a man and two children injured in crash at Bishops Bridge

A woman has died and three people, including two children aged six and one, have been hospitalised following a two-car crash near Maitland.

A woman has died and a man and two children hospitalised following a two-vehicle crash at Bishops Bridge, near Maitland, on Monday.

Emergency services were called to Old Maitland Rd about 2.15pm following reports of a crash between an SUV and a ute.

“At the scene, police were told that an SUV and utility collided, trapping the driver of the SUV,” police said in a statement.

“The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, a woman believed to be aged in her 40s, died at the scene.

“She is yet to be formally identified.”

The male driver of the utility, aged in his 30s, and his two passengers, aged one and six, were taken to John Hunter Hospital for injuries reported as being “non life-threatening”.

A crime scene has been established and Hunter Valley police have commenced inquiries into the incident.

Old Maitland Road, between Majors Lane and Boundary Road, was closed on Monday afternoon in both directions.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
