Castle Hill’s Cameron Tunks has delivered under pressure to help lift the Combined Independent Schools cricket side to their first NSW Primary School Sports Association Boys’ Championship since 2002.

CIS claimed the title with a stirring five-wicket win over Sydney West at Wade Park in Orange.

Chasing 168, CIS looked set for a tough afternoon when Tunks took to the crease with his side at 2-35.

However, the 12 year old combined with batting partner James Moore to regain the momentum with a dominant 110-run stand.

The two set a stirring pace of almost a run a ball, with Moore hitting 50 from 53 and Tunks belting 67 from 69.

The 12 year old helped guide CIS to the PSSA championship with a dominant effort at the crease in the grand final.

Although the pair both fell with CIS on 145, their efforts were enough for the middle order to seal the win with 17 overs remaining.

As a result of Cameron’s starring performance, the William Clarke College student was selected in the PSSA state team for the National School Sports cricket carnival.

He will join Rouse Hill Public School’s Joel Wright in the NSW squad for the elite competition, which will be held in Victoria in January.

“He played excellent, I’m very proud,” Cameron’s mum Yvette said.

“It’s really exciting for him to be selected in the state side.

“He’s looking forward to it.”
