A NEW shopping centre at Dural is a step closer to reality after the proposal passed another planning hurdle.
The Hills Shire Council last Tuesday voted to forward the application for a mixed used development called Skyline Dural to the Department of Planning for review.
The developer, Australian United Securities, intends to construct a five storey apartment block of up to 80 units and a shopping centre on vacant land at 488 Old Northern Rd, south of the current Round Corner town centre.
The planning concept includes 4500sq m of retail space comprising a supermarket, specialty stores, office suites, a restaurant and a central plaza.
There will be three levels of basement parking and 21 townhouses at the rear of the development.
Councillor Robyn Preston said the site was the gateway to Dural and Round Corner.
“This is a (prime example) of what we hope to see coming before us in high end, high quality development,” she said.
“It has generous floor space and magnificent views.”
Cr Andrew Jefferies said the development would help revitalise Dural and Round Corner.
Speaking on behalf of the developer, Peter Lee, from Calibre Consulting, said the development would be a place for people to live, shop, dine and meet.
“It will be a place for people to live with luxury open plan apartments and residences, enjoying sweeping blue mountain views; a place to dine with prestigious cafés and restaurants’ a place to meet in the vibrant open plaza; and a place to shop with the convenience of supermarkets and specialty shops,” he said.
Road work commitment:
As part of the development, the applicant has promised to:
■ Upgrade Old Northern Rd to two lanes between Franlee Rd and Stonlea Crt, and install traffic signals at the main access point
■ Provide more than 250 car spaces at Round Corner and consult with Hills Bus to provide a safer bus stop in front of the development
