The site for the much-anticipated new Rouse Hill Hospital has been locked in six years on from the 2015 initial state government announcement.

Previously the $300 million hospital was planned to be built opposite Rouse Hill Town Centre on the corner Schofields and Windsor Roads.

But on Tuesday afternoon NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard announced the hospital will instead be built on the north-eastern side of Windsor Road near Commercial Road.

“The final site has better access and allows for more land use opportunities compared with the previously announced site, and allows us to better meet the future health needs of Western Sydney,” Mr Hazzard said.

Member for Castle Hill Ray Williams said the site’s location being close to Sydney Metro station was a “huge advantage”.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard announced the hospital will be built on the north-eastern side of Windsor Road near Commercial Road.

“Good public transport and road access is essential. Not just for patients and their families but also for the thousands of staff who will get jobs at this new hospital,” Mr Williams said.

Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly said the new hospital will be a tremendous asset for generations to come.

“I am excited that we are still on track to get construction underway before the next election. To have a new hospital built in the right location is what our communities deserve.”

While Blacktown Council’s mayor Tony Bleasdale welcomed the next stage in the hospital’s development he said the new site was further away from Rouse Hill Town Centre and Rouse Hill Metro.

“It must be noted that a different site for the hospital was officially announced with much fanfare by the Health Minister in February, 2019,” Cr Bleasdale told The Hills Shire Times.

“Now we have a new site that is further away from Rouse Hill Town Centre, further away from Rouse Hill Metro station and on the other side of busy Windsor Rd.”

With the rapid growth in western Sydney he said the government should not wait until just before the 2023 election to start building the hospital.

“Tens of thousands of residents have moved into the area since the Government first promised the hospital before the 2015 Election,” Cr Bleasdale said.

“Government planning policies will see a further 40,000 people will move into the area over the next 15-years while the provision of vital infrastructure continues to lag behind housing growth.

The announcement comes after repeated calls from residents and the NSW opposition leader Jodi McKay over more certainty in the hospital’s planning.

Ms McKay said last month the Hills desperately needed the hospital’s construction to move ahead due to the region’s growing population.

“The Liberal Government has failed to build Rouse Hill Hospital despite local health services being overwhelmed,” Ms McKay previously said.

“Blacktown Hospital is ranked as the most stressed in NSW.”

The site acquisition process is underway and construction is set to start before 2023.
