A young driver will stand trial on dangerous driving charges over a tragic crash in The Hawkesbury last Christmas which killed two cyclists.
Nicholas James Parker, 19, will fight two charges of dangerous driving occasioning death after pleading not guilty at Penrith Local Court on Friday.
The pleas come almost one year to the day since the crash on Kurrajong Rd, Richmond, which left cyclists Chris Culver, 40, and Geoff Havill, 49, dead.
Police allege the Gross Vale P-plater was driving dangerously when he struck the pair head-on while they were out on an early morning ride, at about 5am on December 19.
Mr Havill died at the scene and Mr Culver was flown to Westmead Hospital with critical injuries. Sadly, Mr Culver died later that evening.
The men were remembered as loving fathers with a shared love of cycling.
Parker was supported by his parents in court as he was formally committed for trial.
He will return to court for arraignment in February next year.
