Two members of Hornsby Council staff made the grisly discovery of Rebels bikie Mark Easter about 8.30am while investigating an illegal dumping site on the Pacific Highway, near Glendale Rd.
“They instantly called the police and then their supervisor,” a council spokesman said. “They have been assisting police with their inquiries.
“Both men are understandably shaken by the experience.
“They have returned to work today (Monday) and both have been given access to counselling. They will also be made available to the police at any time they are required.”
Dozens of police spent all day scouring local bushland looking for clues following the discovery of the slain bikie, who had been shot in the head and left on the side of the Pacific Highway.
The small, close-knit community of Cowan has been rattled by the crime.
“It’s a bit too close to home,” said a local man, who asked not to be named.
Another resident said it was a “bit discomforting”.
“Hopefully it will be a one-off and won’t happen again,” he said.
Mr Easter, 37, from Little Bay, was the Sergeant at Arms of the Rebels’ city chapter. He was last seen by his de facto having dinner at Potts Point last Tuesday night.
