New police chief set to help move team to new headquarters

A CHANGE is in the air for Quakers Hill Local Area Command and it all starts with new Superintendent David Jones taking over the top job.

A CHANGE is in the air for Quakers Hill Local Area Command and it all starts with new Superintendent David Jones taking over the top job.

Supt Jones comes from being Commander for the Kur-ring-gai LAC based in Hornsby, to the new Commander for Quakers Hill.

He will be guiding the local team of police officers in the next coming months as they make their way into the new state-of-the-art facilities which will be police head quarters for the local command based in Riverstone.

“I have been in the police force for 25 years ... and in all that time this will be the first time in my career that I will get to work in a brand-new building,’’ Supt Jones said.

Quakers Hill LAC's new superintendant David Jones said the police officers “won’t know themselves” when they move into the new station.
Quakers Hill LAC's new superintendant David Jones said the police officers “won’t know themselves” when they move into the new station.

“The police officers here won’t know themselves when they move into the new station as they have had to work on top of each other because this station is not big enough for the amount of staff we have.’’

The new station will accommodate up to 165 officers and staff compared to the current station which is only supposed to house 65 officers and staff.

“Before this move I had worked in Hawkesbury police station, which at the time was only three or four years old.’’

In fact it was this time Supt Jones spent looking after the Hawkesbury command that he experienced one of the hardest days in his career.

“I was Commander at Hawkesbury when Bryson Anderson died and that was the hardest day I have ever had working on the police force as he was a very good friend of mine,’’ he said.

“Since that day I have worked with the family in helping raise money for them with some fundraising events and I still catch up with, Donna, his wife and his kids.

“Detective Inspector Bryson and I actually worked together at Castle Hill LAC in 1991.’’

Quakers Hill superintendant David Jones experienced the hardest day in his career, the day good mate Bryson Anderson was fatally stabbed during a domestic incident at Oakville in 2012.

Only two weeks in and already Supt Jones has had to work closely with officers in regards to the recent shooting at the station, of which only two of the four officers involved in the incident have managed to return back to work.

Even more recently he has had to look after his crew who had to deal with a triple fatality in Marayong.

“For me personally, I joined the police because I wanted to see the right thing to be done as I was sick of seeing a lot of injustice in the world,’’ he said.

“I thought there is no point in whining about it unless I am prepared to have a crack at it myself.”
