WHEN Charlie La Rosa was asked to escort SBS TV personality Lee Lin Chin down the red carpet at this year’s Logies he jumped at the chance. After all, it’s not every day a 10-year-old gets to star at such a prestigious event.

Charlie — who lives in Turramurra and attends Wahroonga Adventist School — got the gig, as they say in show business circles, after Lee Lin Chin took a shine to him.

Charlie’s mum, Samantha, has been a hair and make-up artist at SBS for 18 years and often took her two young boys Charlie and Oliver to work.

“Lee Lin Chin took a shine to them,” Ms La Rosa told the Advocate. “Two to three weeks ago she asked if Charlie would go to the Logies with her and be her escort. She wanted someone on her arm for the evening. And she just knew Charlie would be able to carry it off. It was wonderful.”

Ms La Rosa said her son couldn’t wait.

“We flew down to Melbourne on Sunday and stayed at the Crown Metropole and had a pre-Logies meeting with the SBS crew who organised for Charlie to be measured up for a tuxedo. He went down the red carpet with Lee Lin Chin and it was amazing. ‘’

Ms La Rosa said Charlie was a little bit nervous before he set off down the famed carpet, “but he is so confident so he really enjoyed the whole event”.

Charlie told the Advocate he had a lot of fun. “The red carpet was the best bit and I really liked meeting all the celebrities.”

Charlie said his schoolmates couldn’t believe it when they saw him on TV. “And I got selfies too, with Dr Chris Brown, Grant Denyer, Karl Stefanovic and Amanda Keller.”

Charlie ended up going to bed at 1am and although Lee Lin Chin didn’t win the Gold Logie she’d been nominated for, Charlie said he felt like a real winner.
