Best friends Jimmy Giggle and Hoot — and their good pal Hootabelle — are heading to the Sydney stage.
The trio behind the popular ABC children’s television series Giggle & Hoot will bring a new show to NSW suburbs for their Giggle and Hoot’s Hootastic Concert tour.
The new show has the team setting off on a pirate adventure to find Mini Hoot, meeting the “World’s Greatest Magician”, Jimmy Giggle-ini along the way.
The concert will include popular songs including T he Gigglemobile, The Giggle Galaxy and Hoot’s Lullaby, as well as some new tracks.
For 31-year-old Jimmy Rees, whether he is bouncing around on stage or playing up to the camera, every day as Jimmy Giggle requires a huge level of energy — something he luckily has in spades.
“I’ve never had trouble (finding the energy) — it’s for a great cause; it’s to make kids laugh and make kids happy, so that’s enough motivation that I ever need to get into character and give it my all,” he said.
As a child, Rees held puppet shows with his brothers while his father — who “always had a camera in our faces” — proudly filmed their antics.
“When I look back it was glaringly obvious what I wanted to do, but it wasn’t obvious at the time,” he said.
He followed his older brother on to the stage in high school productions and when he finished school he realised acting was what he wanted to do.
“I really fell in love with making people laugh and being silly,” he said.
Rees secured the role of Jimmy Giggle at the age of 22 and after nine years says the show’s format has “stood the test of time”.
“It really is simple, we’re there to entertain kids,” he said.
