TWO Epping women are urging their community to speak against a proposed 22-storey development they say will affect their way of life.
Margaret McCartney and Christine Beasley have campaigned against the Forest Park Epping planning proposal, bound by Blaxland Rd, Epping Rd and Forest Grove.
They are concerned by the scale of the proposal and worried by potential traffic and noise impacts.
Mrs McCartney encouraged residents to tell authorities what they think.
“It’s worth having our say. We’ve been silent too long. It’s time we spoke up,” Mrs McCartney said.
“There is a lot of change in Epping and people say we’re not happy with it.”
People can comment on the proposal, available on Hornsby Council’s website, until February 12.
If approved, there would be 654 units across nine buildings.
A spokesman for developer Austino Property Group said any significant development creating housing and community facilities would challenge the community.
There would be an increase in traffic, he said, but encouraged people to use Epping’s public transport.
“We’ve been encouraged by support which people have phoned us with,” he said.
“Some of the bigger companies (in Epping) have been supportive of us, putting together small parcels of land for an integrated design.”
The project would be well designed and bring economic and social benefits, he said.
Austino would provide the council with other contributions as part of a voluntary planning agreement.
This would include money for a public pool at a location to be determined, 6665m of public open space and its maintenance for five years, and improvements to Forest Park.
Some residents fear the pool at Dence Park, Epping, would close as a result.
