A 36-year-old man was trapped in his vehicle for almost an hour after a collision with a tree in Oakville this afternoon.

A front seat passenger managed to clamber free through the window with a dislocated shoulder following the accident on Old Stock Route Rd, laying down beside the road until help arrived.

Both men were taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was called just after 1pm, landing across the road about 100 metres from the scene.

As NSW Fire and Rescue worked to free the man, CareFlight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic assisted the man, who had suffered head and chest injuries.

After he was freed, the driver was airlifted to Westmead Hospital.

The passenger, a 28-year-old man, had also suffered head and neck injuries and was taken by road to Westmead Hospital, also in a stable condition.
