YOUSSEF and Billy Dib are hoping to claim titles when they go up against opponents THE family that fights together wins titles together — or so the Dib brothers hope will be the case on Friday.
Greenacre’s Billy Dib, 31, will be one fight away from a third world title, should he defeat Tanzanian Emilio Norfat on his “home ground” at the Bankstown Emporium function centre.
But before the main event, “The Kid” will be spurring on his youngest brother Youssef Dib when he jumps into the ring for his seventh professional fight.
Youssef, 24, will be up against Brisbane Thai fighter Aphichat Koedchatturat and Billy knows where he would put his money.
“I don’t feel that anyone that he fights at this time or moment should even be coming anywhere next to Youssef,” Billy said.
“He knows what it takes, he’s been there. He’s seen the agony and pain of defeat. But my advice to him is always — he is levels above these people.”
The support is mutual and Youssef said he will be ring side as soon as his match ends.
“I like to get my fight out of the way first so then I can totally focus on Billy just to be there for him and support him the way he supports me,” Youssef said.
“I’ve been around his whole career so I know what makes him tick.”
Billy and Youssef are the youngest of five siblings — and the only two with boxing in their veins.
Anthony Mundine reveals another side
But should either Dib brother win on December 16 — it will be a victory.
“If any one of us succeeds we all succeed,” Billy said.
“My brothers have supported me all over the world and no matter where I fight they follow me.
“I’m sure one day we will be following Youssef around the world too.
“Our aim is to become great in this sport and to leave a legacy behind and inspire young people.”
Billy’s opponent Norfat has 28 wins, 19 knockouts — but Billy is focusing on the Tanzanian’s Achilles.
“He’s also got eight defeats, and he’s lost against the upper echelon of fighters. So it’s definitely a must win fight for me — I need to win in order to set up a world title fight.”
