Teen seriously hurt after being struck by heavy sheets in Bankstown

A 19-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after massive sheets, weighing around 300 kg, fell on him at a factory in Bankstown.

A 19-year-old man suffered serious head injuries after being injured at a worksite in Bankstown.

The man was struck by a falling stack of MDF sheets, weighing around 300kg, while working at a factory in Clements Ave, Bankstown, just before 11am on Tuesday.

He is one of the many workers injured across Sydney this week, with one being killed at a factory at St Marys.

Ambulance NSW paramedics treated the teenager at the Bankstown site before rushing him to Liverpool Hospital.

“He has serious head injuries and is being treated in hospital,” an Ambulance NSW spokeswoman said.

SafeWork NSW inspectors are investigating the incident at Clements Ave.

“Initial investigations indicate the worker was struck by a falling stack of MDF sheets,” said a SafeWork NSW spokesman.

Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) is a product made from pine fibre and resin.

Yesterday, a 59-year-old man sustained head, abdomenal and leg injuries in a workplace accident in Moorebank.

Last Wednesday a man died from a severe head injury while working at a pallet factory in St Marys.

Another two men were also injured on the same day at construction sites in Point Piper and Pyrmont.

A man in his 40s fell about eight metres from scaffolding at a property on Longworth Ave in the eastern suburbs, suffering serious head and leg injuries.

The property is the former home of Malcolm Turnbull’s mother, Coral Lansbury, who lived there in the 1940’s prior to her son’s birth.

Another man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital after being hit in the head by falling steel pipes at a construction site on Miller St in Pyrmont.
