A young female school teacher who was soon to be married will spend at least the weekend behind bars on remand after police claim she sexually assaulted a male student in her car and at another location for several weeks.

Monica Young, 23, was silent as she appeared on the audio visual link at Parramatta Bail Court from Amber Laurel Correctional Centre in Sydney’s west charged with 10 counts of sexual abuse against the boy.

The Greenacre woman has now been hit with five charges of aggravated sexual intercourse without consent, two counts of intentionally sexually touching a child, intentionally inciting a child to sexually touch, and intentionally sexually touching a child and inciting the child to sexually touch in circumstances aggravated by her position of authority over him.

Young’s solicitor Gazi Abbas did not apply for bail on her behalf and the matter will return for a possible bail application at Bankstown Local Court on Monday.

Magistrate Karen Robinson granted orders to prevent the identification of the school at the centre of the alleged crimes, but a further attempt brought by Young’s solicitor to suppress her identity was successfully opposed by The Sunday Telegraph.

Young was soon to be married to her fiance, who told media they had been in a relationship for six years.

Officers executed a search warrant at the Greenacre home during the arrest, where they seized a vehicle and electronic devices for further examination.

Detective Acting Superintendent Michael Haddow said on Friday afternoon the alleged offences, which are understood to have been reported by the student, allegedly took place over about a month in a variety of locations.

“NSW Police would strongly encourage parents and carers to have regular conversations with their children about who they are meeting with and speaking to on social media,” he said.

“If they encounter something or someone they are not comfortable with, we encourage them to speak to a person they trust, who can then let our investigators know.”
