Sydneysider to make a splash at Miami Swim Week with her cheeky bikini label
TJ Swim’s cheeky bikini designs, that celebrities like Kourtney Kardashian love, will hit the catwalk at Miami Swim Week.
TJ Swim founder Tara Jane Sargeant’s cheeky bikini designs are making a big splash on the global fashion market.
The TJ Swim brand has been spotted on celebrities - including Kourtney Kardashian, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Chrissy Teigen - who love the barely-there cut on the bikini bottoms.
“We’re known for our cheeky Brazilian coverage and 80’s inspired high cut legs that complement the curves of the female body,” Tara Jane said.
“Our suits are designed to empower women from all around the globe to be strong and confident in their own skin.”
The 24 year-old Sydney designer, started her bikini business in the laundry of her parent’s Earlwood home in 2015 and is currently valued at more than $3m.
She is now getting ready to show her designs at Miami Swim Week for the second year.
“Our new Femme Fatale collection, that we’re showing on the runway at Miami Swim Week with Fashion Palette, features figure-flattering, feminine cuts and, of course, the high-cut legs and Brazilian coverage which is a common theme throughout all the TJ Swim collections,” Tara Jane said.
“This collection also features bold and bright colours to inspire confidence and power in the wearer.”
The inspiration behind the TJ Swim designs is drawn from the 80-90s era drawing on runways, movies and pop-culture - think Pamela Anderson’s high cut red swimsuit on Baywatch.
Tara Jane, who has just graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with a business degree, started TJ Swim with $10,000 originally intended for an overseas trip.
“I have an eCommerce background and I’ve worked and interned in the fashion industry since I was 16,” she said.
“I’ve always been interested in fashion; however, I initially wanted a career in marketing.
“I never would have suspected that I’d be running my own fashion label.”
She said it was her own struggle to find a high-quality, seamless, Brazilian bikini that started the TJ Swim label story.
“At the time I had the travel bug and found myself living in bikinis,” she said.
“That really was my light-bulb moment. I was working in the fashion industry and I thought I’d love to create my own label.
“It started as a side business but within six months it was a fulltime job.
“Today the company is at a point where it’s outgrown my home and we’ve moved into a warehouse in Sydney, which is exciting.”
TJ Swim will be one of eight Australian labels that will be on the catwalk at Miami Swim Week as part of the Fashion Palette showcase on at The Setai Hotel, Miami Beach on Sunday, July 14.
