Aside from occasionally shepherding Bulldogs fans from Campsie station to Belmore Oval, Lilian Lane has largely lain dormant for the last 25 years.
But it will be reawakened this Saturday, with a block party launching the arrival of the Lilian Lane Arts and Entertainment Precinct.
New street art, power and lighting will help reactivate the space that was last given a lick of paint in 1991 and this weekend the laneway will be filled with food trucks, graffiti, live music and dance battles.
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Vyva Entertainment (responsible for the popular annual 4 Elements Hip Hop Festival) are the brains behind the project and Vyva’s Vyvienne Abla said the hope was that people would use the area outside the stadium for events like markets.
“We need to get more creative with how we use space,” Ms Abla said.
“Lilian Lane is in a great area and it's just been sitting there under our noses the whole time.”
The faded graffiti wall is being restored with the help of 4Elements Music Project, which has pulled together some of the original artists.
At the block party, music and dance acts include Zeadala, Dobby, David Miller, Rotaris, Sparrow, Izzy and more.
Join the party at Lilian Lane, Belmore Sports Ground, on Saturday, 1pm-7pm. Entry is free.
