Rabbit rescued from house fire in Belmore

A desperate dad wasn’t able to go back into a burning unit to save his kids’ beloved pet rabbit, so a few hero firefighters saved the day.

Easter treats delivered to flood-affected towns

A bunny rabbit has been saved from a unit fire in Belmore this morning, with firefighters saving one family from Easter heartache.

The fire broke out in an apartment block in Tudor Street, Belmore, just before 9am this morning, with Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Campsie, Ashfield, and Burwood, and seven fire trucks attending the scene.

A 50-year-old man, who suffered from smoke inhalation, had already saved one rabbit from his apartment, belonging to his children, but was unable to re-enter the building to save the second.

Firefighters wearing breathing aparatus then entered the building to put the fire out and located the second bunny.

They carried it out to safety, returning it to its rightful owner.

The 50-year old was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

Eight additional residents were evacuated from the building, four of which were also treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out in the same apartment that the bunny rabbit was rescued from, but the rabbit is not currently being treated as suspicious.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW said, “The bunny is free. He’s not thought to be the cause.

“If he’s got an Easter bunny round, he can continue on.”

He said the incident is a timely reminder that calling triple-0 (000) immediately is the difference between life and death.

Investigations into the fire are ongoing.
