BULLDOGS legend Steve Mortimer reckons he looks better as a mural, well just.
“I’m an ugly looking bugger. The painter made me look a little prettier, but not much,” Mortimer said.
The face of Mortimer, along with Bulldogs greats Terry Lamb, Hazem El Masri, Dr George Peponis, Josh Reynolds and Andrew Ryan have been immortalised in a mural in the heart of Belmore.
Unveiled last week at the rail underpass outside Belmore Sports Ground, the Think Safe, Be Smart mural was painted by graffiti artist Tom ‘Dcipher’ McDonald, with the help of 17 Canterbury-Bankstown children.
It was created as a joint crime prevention initiative between the Bulldogs and Canterbury-Bankstown Council, to promote community safety and deter vandalism.
“Like all cities, We face a graffiti problem so we are forced to devote a significant amount of time and resources removing it from around 800 local sites each year,” council administrator Richard Colley said.
“But it’s more important we address the matter at the grassroots, through education.”

Mortimer said he felt “privileged” to be part of the initiative.
“I’m privileged to be part of something that is for the benefit of the behaviour of our youths and helping put them on the right path,” he said.
